Seasonal Worker Programme

The Seasonal Worker Programme provides PNG citizens with the opportunity to work in Australia for up to nine months in a 12 month period. Workers can return year after year to the same employer if they perform well and are invited back.

Workers are employed in low- or semi-skilled jobs in agriculture, horticulture, tourism and hospitality in rural and regional Australia. This includes some capital cities, including Adelaide, Darwin and Hobart.

PNG sends agriculture workers to jobs around Australia, from fruit picking to market vegetables and berries. We have workers in the fields and in packing rooms.

Both women and men participate, and we have a Women in Agriculture program that has helped increase female participation.
